Blood Moon over San Francisco
January 31, 2018
On the morning of January 31, 2018, photographer Frank Tapia captured three lunar phenomena from his photo studio deck that occurred simultaneously for the first time in 152 years: a Super Moon, a Blue Moon, and a Blood Moon.
What Made This Event Special
Super Moon: The moon is unusually close to the Earth which makes it appear larger and brighter.
Blue Moon: When two full moons happen in the same calendar month.
Blood Moon: When the Moon turns red during an eclipse.
